Verna Moore and Ashley Penrod struck and killed by semi truck

Pike County, AR — October 4, 2023: A tragic accident occurred along Highway 27 in the area of Cowhide Cove, resulting in the loss of two lives. Ashley Penrod (31) and Verna Moore (87) were traveling southbound in a Ford Explorer, while a Freightliner semi-truck was heading northbound. Unfortunately, the Freightliner lost control while navigating a curve and crossed into the southbound lanes, colliding with the Ford. Both Penrod and Moore sustained fatal injuries. Although roads were wet at the time, authorities have not confirmed any additional contributing factors.
