A fatal collision on I-70 near Bennett claimed one life and injured three others on Thursday night. The eastbound lanes were shut down for several hours from Exit 299 to Exit 304 as authorities cleared the scene. The road reopened around 10 p.m.
The accident happened when a pickup truck with five people inside skidded on the wet road and slammed into a box truck that was parked on the shoulder. The box truck driver had pulled over because of the heavy rain and hail that made driving unsafe. The impact pushed the box truck into a ditch.
One passenger in the pickup truck died at the scene. Three others suffered serious injuries. The pickup truck had Kansas license plates, according to Colorado State Patrol.
