A hit-and-run driver, who was allegedly impaired by drugs or alcohol, killed a 50-year-old pedestrian in Griswold on September 22, Connecticut State Police said. Kandi Fortuna was walking near the corner of Route 12 and Green Avenue around 8 p.m. when a Subaru WRX hit her and fled the scene. She was taken to William Backus Hospital, where she died from her injuries. Later that night, Stonington police spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect’s car and stopped the driver. The 34-year-old man showed signs of impairment and was arrested. He faces charges of evading responsibility resulting in death and driving under the influence.
