A tractor-trailer fatally struck John Vanslytman, a Florida resident, in a parking lot of a Love’s Travel Stop in Blacksburg on Wednesday morning. Vanslytman, 29, from Maitland, was working on his pickup truck under the hood while standing on a step ladder. A tractor-trailer entered the lot and hit him, trapping him between the two vehicles. Despite attempts to revive him, Vanslytman died at the scene. The coroner’s office did not release any information about the truck driver.
