Charles Carson killed in work accident at Georg Utz, Inc.

A crane accident in Edinburgh killed a 66-year-old man on Wednesday afternoon at Georg Utz, Inc., according to the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office.

Charles D. Carson, of Elizabethtown, was working on the shop floor at 14000 N. CR 250 W. when a large metal piece that was hanging from a crane fell and hit his head, the coroner’s office said. The metal piece was heavy and had been lifted in the air before it dropped.

The coroner’s office arrived at the scene shortly after 12 p.m. on Wednesday. The Edinburgh Fire and Police departments also responded and tried to save Carson’s life, but they were unsuccessful, the coroner’s office said.
