A worker died in a machine accident at a plant on Evansville’s West Side on Monday, authorities said. The coroner identified the victim as Christopher L. Payton, 59, of Vanderburgh County. He was working at Silgan Closures America, located at 2201 W. Maryland St., when the incident happened around 1:20 p.m. Police did not release any more details about the cause of his death. The state’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the safety standards at the plant. The probe could take up to six months, a spokeswoman said.
