Debra Scherer, 68, of Troy killed when car crosses center line

A head-on collision on State Road 66 in Spencer County claimed the life of a local Habitat for Humanity leader on Tuesday, September 26. Debra Scherer, 68, of Troy, Indiana, was driving westbound when her vehicle was struck by an eastbound car that crossed the center line. The driver of the other car, Ezekiel Wannemuhler, 22, of Mount Vernon, Indiana, also suffered injuries in the crash. Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles and were taken to a nearby hospital. Scherer, who was the President of the Spencer County Habitat for Humanity, succumbed to her injuries later that day.
