Three people died in a high-speed collision on the east side of Indianapolis on Tuesday night, according to Indiana State Police. The crash occurred at the intersection of East 10th Street and North Mithoeffer Road around 9:53 p.m., when a Dodge Challenger ran a red light and slammed into another vehicle. The Challenger had been involved in a police chase that spanned Indianapolis and Hancock County, police said. The driver of the other vehicle, identified as 21-year-old Makayla Hankins, was killed in the impact. The type of vehicle she was driving was not disclosed by police. Two passengers in the Challenger, 14-year-old Christian Leyba-Gonzalez and 31-year-old Jose Gonzalez, both of Indianapolis, also died in the crash. The driver of the Challenger, 19-year-old Luis Leyba-Gonzalez, survived with minor injuries and was arrested on a preliminary felony charge of resisting law enforcement causing death. He was being held at an undisclosed location on Wednesday afternoon, and no court records were available for him. Police said he was driving the Challenger at “an extremely high speed” when he caused the fatal crash.
