A head-on collision on Clinton Highway claimed the lives of two women on Tuesday morning in the Claxton community of Anderson County. The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the victims as Shelby L. Russell, 30, who was driving a 2019 Nissan Sentra, and Janie S. Ballinger, 78, of Fall Wind Ct, Powell, who was riding in a 2021 Kia Sorento with her husband, Johnny Ballinger, 80. Johnny Ballinger suffered injuries in the crash and was taken to a hospital. The THP report said that Russell’s car crossed the center line and struck the Ballingers’ car around 11:10 a.m. at 3319 Clinton Highway, also known as U.S. Highway 25W.
