On Monday afternoon, a three-vehicle collision on I-275 near the airport claimed the life of a woman and left a man with critical injuries. The westbound lanes of I-275 were closed for almost three hours as a result of the crash.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as Kristina Yelton, 67, of Aurora, Indiana. She was a passenger in a 2013 Kia Soul driven by her husband, Randy Yelton, 70, who was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The crash happened around 1:50 p.m. when traffic was slowing down due to another accident ahead. A 2000 Ford F350, driven by Justin Cole, 35, of Hebron, rear-ended the Kia Soul, pushing it into a UPS delivery van that was also slowing down. The van was driven by Ryan Weinle, 39, of Moores Hill, Indiana. The pickup truck then hit the van again and both the pickup and the Kia veered off the road and hit a guard rail, according to investigators.
