Mark Arends 53 of Alden killed in coyote hunting accident

A coyote hunting trip turned fatal for a man in Hardin County on Sunday night. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, who are investigating the incident, 53-year-old Mark Arends of Mill Street was shot by a single rifle bullet while hunting on private land near Alden around 8:00 p.m. He was several hundred yards away from the other hunters when he was hit. He later died at an Iowa Falls hospital.
