A boat race on Lake Jacksonville turned fatal for an Iowa man who succumbed to his injuries in Springfield. Richard Krier, 76, of Indianola, Iowa, was racing his boat on Sept. 8 when he crashed and suffered severe blunt force trauma. He was rushed to Springfield Memorial Hospital, where he died at 2 a.m. on Wednesday. The Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, confirmed that Krier’s death was caused by the injuries from the boat crash. The incident is still under investigation. A witness, Walker, said he did not notice any accident during the race and wondered why the lake was not closed for the probe.
