Manalapan NJ woman 79 killed in head-on collision

A 79-year-old woman from Manalapan, NJ, died in a head-on collision on County Route 537 in Upper Freehold Township, Monmouth County, on September 17, 2023. The accident happened around 2:50 p.m. near milepost 34.4, according to New Jersey State Police SFC Philip Curry of the Office of Public Information. He said that a Jeep Laredo driven by John Shovelin III, 23, of Rumson, NJ, was going westbound on the county road and crossed the center line to pass other vehicles. The Jeep crashed into an eastbound Buick Enclave driven by the woman, who suffered fatal injuries. Shovelin was seriously injured in the crash.
