A woman from Bloomfield lost her life on Friday night after a vehicle hit her at a busy intersection. Nelly Fernandez, 60, of La France, was crossing Bloomfield Avenue and Grove Street when the collision happened around 7:25 p.m. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Emergency workers rushed Fernandez to University Hospital, but she died from her injuries at 7:52 p.m.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is looking into the cause of the fatal accident. According to a law enforcement source, the driver had a green light and was turning left when he struck Fernandez, who lived near the intersection. The source also said there was no evidence of impaired driving. No charges have been filed yet and the investigation is ongoing.
