Police chase ends in death of scooter rider in New Jersey

Police from Totowa chased a motorized scooter across a bridge over the Passaic River on Wednesday night, leading to a fatal crash in Paterson. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. near the intersection of McBride and Murray avenues, according to multiple law enforcement sources. The identity of the scooter rider, who died in the crash, has not been revealed as of late Thursday morning. The sources did not specify why the Totowa police initiated the pursuit, which may have violated the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office guidelines on when to chase motor vehicles, including motorized scooters.
