Larry Torres, 22, of Far Rockaway NY killed in crash

A 24-year-old man lost control of his 2006 MINI Cooper and crashed into a tree on Peninsula Boulevard near the Southern State Parkway, killing his passenger, Larry Torres, 22, of Far Rockaway. The driver was severely injured and is in critical condition at a local hospital. This was the second fatal crash on the same road that day; earlier, around 4:25 a.m., a Nissan Altima also veered off the road and hit multiple trees, claiming the life of Merlin Lopez, 28. Two other people in the car were badly hurt.
