Jalen Worthy, 20, of Garrett Grigg struck and killed on skateboard

CHARLOTTE — A tragic accident claimed the life of a young man who was riding a motorized skateboard in the University City area of Charlotte on Monday morning. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on West Mallard Creek Church Road, near the overpass of Interstate 85. The victim, identified as 20-year-old Jalen Donovan Worthy, was struck by a car and suffered critical injuries. He was rushed to the hospital, but he did not survive, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. This was the second fatal crash involving a pedestrian in the same area within two hours. Earlier, another person was killed on I-85 South, about a mile away from the skateboarder’s crash site.
