A fatal accident occurred at the USG plant in Southard, Blaine County, where a contractor was crushed by his own truck’s bed, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The contractor, who was from Lahoma, came to the plant to clear a scrap metal pile. He had a flatbed truck that could be raised by a hydraulic pump, but the pump was malfunctioning.
He attempted to repair the pump by using a telescopic forklift to lift the front of the bed while pushing down the back. However, the truck moved forward due to the forklift’s pressure and the bed dropped on the contractor, killing him instantly.
The accident took place between 2 p.m. on Tuesday, when he was last seen alive, and 10 a.m. on Wednesday, when his body was found, said Undersheriff Eric Denning.
