Brandon Frederick, 37, killed in Somerset mine accident

A Johnstown man died in a mining accident in Somerset County on Monday, according to the county coroner. Brandon Frederick, 37, was fatally injured when he was pinned between a shuttle car and a wall of the mine. He suffered multiple injuries to his chest that caused his death, which was ruled accidental by Coroner Cullen Swank. The accident happened around 11 a.m. at the Maple Springs Mine in Conemaugh Township, owned by LTC Energy. The company said that Frederick was part of a work crew that was underground when the accident occurred and that four of his co-workers, who were also EMTs, brought him to the surface.
