On Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 11, a fatal collision occurred in Fulton County, involving two vehicles. The accident took place at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Lincoln Way East in Todd Township, around 3:54 p.m. (Note: Lincoln Way East is a different road from U.S. 30 in some parts of Fulton County.)
The victim was identified as William E. Scheffer, 61, from Chambersburg. He was driving a 1999 Ford F350 eastbound on U.S. 30 when his truck was struck by a 2008 Pontiac G6, driven by Merle G. Hovis, 81, from McConnellsburg. Hovis was traveling west on U.S. 30 and tried to make a left turn onto Lincoln Way East, hitting the passenger side of Scheffer’s truck.
The force of the impact caused Scheffer’s truck to flip over and eject him from the vehicle. He died at the scene, according to Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg. Hovis sustained minor injuries and was transported to Fulton County Medical Center for treatment
