Vanda Makovetskiy, 85, killed in Providence pedestrian accident

A Providence woman faces charges for a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of an elderly pedestrian last week, Providence police said.

Caitlin Kelly, 27, was arrested on Friday and charged with neglecting to stop after an accident that caused personal injury, police said. She also received a traffic tribunal summons for failing to report the accident.

She is due to appear in District Court today for arraignment, police said.

The victim, Vanda Makovetskiy, 85, was walking with her husband on Wednesday morning when she was struck by a vehicle around 6:17 a.m. at the intersection of North Main Street and Pleasant Street, police said. She was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
