Cameron Craig, Abingdon VA killed in fire truck crash

A fire truck from the Abingdon Fire Department was involved in a fatal accident on Thursday, October 19, 2023, around 5:15 p.m. The vehicle was on its way to a fire alarm, traveling south on Vance’s Mill Rd., when it suddenly lost control and went off the road. The fire truck overturned, struck a utility pole, and rolled down an embankment.

The passenger of the vehicle, Cameron Craig, 20, of Saltville, Va., was thrown out of the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center, where he was released later that night. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
