A loose tire from a westbound Jeep Renegade caused a fatal crash on Interstate 64 in York County on Sunday, Oct. 1, Virginia State Police said.
The tire came off the 2017 Jeep around 12:15 p.m. and flew into the eastbound lanes, where it hit the driver’s side of a 2005 Ford Explorer near the Colonial Parkway overpass, police said.
The Ford’s driver, Tammy M. Parsons, 53, of Williamsburg, suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the scene. The Jeep’s driver, Kimberly Anne Ashe, also of Williamsburg, was not injured.
